2014 Trinity Jazz Festival, Houston

Tuesday, January 21st, 2014

I would like to personally  invite you to attend the Trinity Jazz Festival this Friday and Saturday in midtown at Trinity Church, 1015 Holman at Main.  The festival features world class jazz in a beautiful, serene setting.  There will also be free master classes on Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s headliner is Houston native and HSPVA graduate, Saxophonist  Everette Harp, Everette has recorded on Blue Note and Capitol records and has played and toured with the likes of George Duke;  Anita Baker; David Sanborn; Marcus Miller; and Diane Reeves.

Saturday night’s headliner is Guitarist  Eric Essix from Birmingham.  If you listen to Watercolors on Sirius XM or Donna Franklin on KTSU, you have probably heard his latest single ‘ Foot Soldiers’ from his 20th CD ‘Evolutions’.

Invite your friends and enjoy the weekend at Trinity. Thank you in advance for your support. I look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Houston Looses a Great Piano Bar Performer

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Carlos & Russ, 2002Sunday, April 11, Houston lost one of her great entertainers, Russ White.  Called Mr. Piano Bar by many, Russ played piano solo and open mic gigs around Houston for over 50 years.  A product of the U of H music program, Russ performed with greats like the Chad Mitchel Trio, Kenny Rogers, Bobby Doyle, Tony Campise and the Bice Squad.  A unique combination of class clown and accomplished musician, Russ could plan any song in any key, often augmenting the lyrics to be unexpectedly funny.  Over the years he attracted hundreds of musicians and singers who would come out to sit in with him as he entertained people around the baby grand.  He was truly amazing, in the 15 years that I worked with him,  I can count on one hand the number of times Russ could not play the tune, in the special key requested by the open mike guest.  Many of us the patiently schooled into performers with respectable books both instrumentally and vocally.  If you were serious about learning he was serious about teaching year, and giving you every chance to excel.

Everyone Please Come to the

Remembering Russ Jam Session,
